This policy explains what personal information NaijaHomes collects, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have. We aim to follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number and password (we never see your password in plain text), and whether you are a buyer or a seller.
- Seller profile: things you choose to add, such as a business name, photo, bio, location and links.
- Listings: the details, photos, videos and contact details you add to a property.
- Documents for review: IDs and property documents (for example a C of O, survey plan or deed) that you upload so our team can approve your listing or your seller profile.
- Messages: messages, photos, videos, voice notes and files you send through chat, and the enquiries you send to sellers.
- Activity: properties you save, the listings you view, and whether you are online (“last seen” is only shown to people you are chatting with).
- Support messages: what you send us through the Help form, WhatsApp or email.
2. Why we use it
- To run your account, show listings and let buyers and sellers contact each other.
- To check that listings and sellers are real, and to keep users safe from fraud.
- To answer your questions and handle reports.
- To show sellers simple statistics, such as views and enquiries for their listings.
- To improve the site and to follow the law.
3. Who can see your information
- Your documents and ID: only you and the NaijaHomes review team. They are kept in private storage. Buyers and other sellers never see the files. If a listing is verified, buyers only see the type of document that was checked (for example “Certificate of Occupancy”), never the file.
- Your listings and seller profile: anyone who visits the site, including your business name, the contact details you chose to show, and your listings.
- Your chat messages: you and the person you are chatting with. We only look at a conversation if it is reported or the law requires it.
- Your enquiries: the seller of that property. They see your name, message and the phone number you add.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Services we use
We use trusted providers to run the site: Supabase (database, login and file storage), Netlify (hosting and the Help form) and, later, Flutterwave (payments). They process information for us and only for these purposes. Your information may be stored on servers outside Nigeria. We choose providers that protect it with appropriate safeguards.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. Documents you uploaded for a listing are kept while the listing exists and for a reasonable time after, so we can deal with disputes and legal requests. When you delete a listing or ask us to delete your account, we remove your information unless the law requires us to keep some of it.
6. Keeping it safe
We use access rules so people only see what they should, private storage for documents, and secure connections. No website is completely safe, so please use a strong password and do not share it. If you think someone has got into your account, tell us straight away.
7. Your choices
- You can see and edit your profile and listings in your account.
- You can delete your own listings, saved properties and documents that are not yet approved.
- You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, or delete your account.
- You can object to how we use your information, or complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
To make a request, use our Help & support page, or contact us as shown below.
8. Children
NaijaHomes is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
